Ideas and gimmicks for attracting delegates to your trade booth…

We know the age old testimony, “location, location, location”, but what else can you do to attract people to your stand?

1. The look

Thinking about the design of your trade booth, ask yourself – would you go to the booth? Use bright colours and put effort into the design of your booth to make it more engaging and approachable. Can your message be seen from all directions – near and far? Make sure you use lighting and clear writing. If that doesn’t work perhaps the wafting smell of popcorn or coffee will assist you.

2. Approachable booths

Your booth needs to be approachable. Professional booth attendants who smile and engage with delegates is vital. Have a variety of different display options to appeal to different people. Where some like flyers and pamphlets others may prefer a video demonstration or interactive tablet display. Having a passport photo booth that features a company logo on the bottom of print outs can also attract attendees to create memories which last a lifetime. If a photo booth doesn’t quite align with your company’s culture then perhaps a massage from the Three Minute Angels or a bush bike smoothie maker is more up your alley!

3. Snacks and drinks

Trade exhibitions are usually in a large space and attendees are sometimes not accustomed to all the walking around. Offering snacks, drinks and somewhere to sit is usually appreciated (but you should check on the venue’s policy about serving food and drinks from your stand). Water bottles or any packaging should come with your company branding or business card attached, as a reminder of who courteously supplied it. Be creative and have some fun with what you are offering, for example try ice creams or a chocolate fountain.

4. Promotional products and contests

Everyone loves to win – contests, promotions, prize draws or roulette wheels will attract people to your booth. It’s also a great way to find out more information from attendees by asking for their business card or supplying a survey/questionnaire before they go in the draw or spin the wheel.

Promotional products and branded giveaways are always popular at trade shows. The promotional products that you choose to give away should be relevant to the brand and useful to the consumer.

Some of the most popular promotional products for trade shows include:

  • Pens: something that everyone uses regularly! Generally kept for a long period of time and could be loaned to others.
  • Electronic gadgets: one can never have too many USB’s or thumb drives, but mobile cases are also usually also well received.
  • Cups and mugs: travel mugs rank among the best-received gifts at trade shows and will carry your brand everywhere.
  • Notepads: useful in both the office and at the conference.
